Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year - 2008 Winner

In 2008 I was honoured to receive the 2008 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for Technology and Communications. This award meant so much to me as it is the world’s most prestigious award for entrepreneurs. With the accolade given to people all over the world, the award scheme celebrates those who are building and leading successful, growing and dynamic businesses. Past UK winners include Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne and Stelios Haji-Ioannou. I couldn’t have won this award without the support of the incredibly talented team who helped turn Masternaut into a real success story.

Sunday Times Tech Track 100 - 2007, 2008 and 2009

In 2007, Masternaut - the business that I founded in 2002 entered the Sunday Times Tech Track 100, making it officially one of the UK’s fastest growing technology companies. We grew the business rapidly - by delivering return on investment for our clients - and news of our technology and its effectiveness spread fast. In 2004 we had revenues of £2.9m and by 2008 revenues were £22.3m. In 2007, Microsoft the sponsor of Tech Track 100 named Masternaut the ‘best user of Technology’ out of the league table containing 100 companies.

IoD - Entrepreneur of the Year 2010

In 2010, I was awarded the Institute of Directors Entrepreneur of the Year award, which was presented at their Director of the Year awards. The IoD has always championed and supported entrepreneurs - and in this instance it was meaningful to receive an award judged by other successful entrepreneurs and respected captains of industry.

Best Company to work for - 2008, 2009 and 2011

As long as I’ve been in business, I’ve always believed that talented, enthusiastic and dedicated people are the key to success - and to attract and retain people like that you’ve got to offer people more than just a job. You’ve got to make them feel like they’re a part of the family in an environment that let’s them attain their very best and grow.

As an entrepreneurial business, Masternaut has a completely unique atmosphere and culture which drove the company from strength to strength. It’s also great for this uniqueness to be recognised - and Masternaut earned ‘Best Company to work for’ status in 2008, 2009 and 2011.

Deloitte Technology Fast 500

In 2009, Masternaut entered the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 which is a ranking of the 500 fastest growing technology companies in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Rankings are based on percentage revenue growth over five years - Masternaut grew 653.97% during this period. Having founded the business in 2002 as a three person startup - this is a real achievement for a business that was at the time just eight years old.

Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards 2008

In 2008, we won the hotly contested Yorkshire Post Excellence in business award, for companies with a turnover of between £10m and £50m. I’m proud to be from the Yorkshire area, and both of my businesses have been based here. The region is full of enterprising people who have really put this region on the map. I also look forward to playing a part in creating new businesses and jobs in the local area.
